The build up to Christmas is always a busy time in Exmouth, with plenty of festive events taking place across the town. From much-loved traditions to unique experiences on the water, we’ve rounded up the very best of the festive season. Whether you’re planning family outings, evenings with friends or a festive treat for yourself, these are the highlights to look forward to this Christmas:
Exmouth Winter Festival
Taking place on Saturday 29th November, Exmouth Winter Festival transforms the town centre into a festive wonderland, marking the start of Christmas with music, lights and community cheer. The Strand comes alive with the grand Christmas lights switch-on, live performances, local stalls, children’s activities and a feast of festive food and drink. It’s an evening that always draws a fantastic crowd, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere as the town glows under the new lights. It’s the perfect way to begin the season and sets the tone for the celebrations to come.
Sail with Santa – Stuart Line Cruises
A beloved Exmouth tradition, Sail with Santa runs from 6th to 22nd December, bringing a touch of magic to the River Exe. Board at Exmouth Marina and step into Santa’s cosy onboard grotto, where children will receive a special gift from the man in red while adults can enjoy mulled wine, mince pies, and the stunning winter scenery. It’s a relaxed, joyful outing that has become a seasonal favourite in the area.
Christmas Live Music Night Cruises
For a more grown-up festive cruise, Stuart Line Cruises’ Christmas Live Music Night Cruises offer an evening of live music, drinks, and the twinkling lights of the estuary as a backdrop. These cruises are perfect for a Christmas night out with friends, family, or even a special festive date night. These cruises are available on select dates from late November to mid December.
Christmas Indoor Market at The Pavilion
If you’re looking for a festive shopping trip under one roof, The Pavilion’s Christmas Indoor Market is a great choice. Taking place on Tuesday 2nd December, the auditorium will fill with a vibrant mix of craft stalls, vintage finds, and quirky treasures, perfect if you’re looking to pick up unique gifts or a treat for yourself. Open from 10am to 4pm with free entry, it’s an ideal spot to browse local goodies and enjoy the festive atmosphere, whatever the weather outside.
Christmas Day Swim
For those braving the cold, the Christmas Day Swim is a much-loved tradition along Exmouth’s seafront, drawing locals and visitors alike. Every year, participants plunge into the icy waters, many in fancy dress. Spectators gather along the shore to cheer them on, while others opt for a more comfortable vantage point aboard Stuart Line Cruises’ special Christmas Day Swim Viewing Cruise. This festive trip offers a wonderful view of the spectacle at sea and includes warm mince pies and mulled wine to complete the holiday experience.
As the year winds down, Exmouth’s festive calendar promises something for everyone. Whether you’re soaking up the atmosphere, joining seasonal activities or simply enjoying the twinkling lights and local cheer, the town offers plenty of ways to embrace the Christmas spirit.
