Free Guided Birdwatching Sessions at Exmouth Wildlife Refuge – FREE

Ever spotted a flock of birds out on the estuary and wondered what they are? Or fancied learning a little more about the amazing wildlife that spends the winter on the Exe?

This autumn and winter, we’ll be hosting a series of free, informal birdwatching sessions at Exmouth Wildlife Refuge. These relaxed drop-in sessions are a great opportunity to spend some time outdoors with us, take a closer look at the birds using the estuary, and learn a bit about the species that call this special place home during the colder months.

The Exe Estuary is internationally important for overwintering birds, providing vital feeding and resting areas for thousands of birds each year. Throughout the season, we can expect to see species such as Dark-bellied Brent Geese, Wigeon, Curlew, Oystercatcher and many more. We’ll have binoculars and a telescope available, and we’ll be on hand to help identify what you’re looking at and answer any questions you may have.

If you have your own binoculars, please bring them along. If not, don’t worry, we’re happy to share ours and help you get a closer look at the birds.

There’s no need to book or stay for a set amount of time. Simply drop by, say hello, and spend as much or as little time with us as you’d like. Whether you’re completely new to birdwatching, looking for a family-friendly outdoor activity, or keen to improve your identification skills, everyone is welcome.

These sessions are all about enjoying nature, discovering the incredible birdlife of the Exe Estuary, and helping people feel more connected to the wildlife on their doorstep. So, if you’re passing by, we’d love you to stop and join us for a chat.
